Log Splitter Parts
Log splitters are quite an investment in most cases so you will want to make sure you take care of it the proper way. We recommend performing regular maintence on your splitter every time you start a splitting project, then a very thorough check up at least once each year - preferrable right before log splitting season starts.
Regular Log Splitter Maintenance
Oil and Hydraulic Fluid
It is always a good idea to keep hydraulic fluid and oil on hand. Check your oil and fluid levels every few times you use your log splitter to avoid stalling or burning up your hydraulics or your engine. Almost all log splitters use a hydraulic pump in one way or another.
Wheels
Most hydraulic log splitters that run on gas or diesel are mounted on a set of wheels that need to be checked regularly for pressure to avoid having to replace them often. A simple air compressor tool can keep you in check, and a hand pump is often all you need to fill the wheels up again.
Cleaning your log splitter
Every time you finish a job you should wipe down your log splitter and dust off any debris that could interfere with the performance of it next time. Nothing is worse than experiencing a jam because of a small wood chip that get's in the way an hour into your work!Fuel
Make sure you have the right fuel on hand and that your fuel levels are sufficient.
